a Rookery Hall wedding
This was my first wedding after lockdowns and my first Rookery Hall wedding for ages!
I’m a Cheshire wedding photographer based in the Midlands. Rookery Hall in Cheshire is a stunning wedding venue and it’s felt like so long since i’ve been here, with the lockdown and everything.
Adele and John were so lovely and made me feel like one of the wedding guests. It was a really relaxed and fun vibe. There was only thirty guests because of lockdown restrictions but actually, whisper it quietly, I really prefer these smaller weddings. They were really laid-back and just let me do my photography thing. They also gave me beer. I was happy.
Bridal prep was quiet and relaxed and their daughter was soooo cute getting ready! Made for some really lovely photos. I tried to be as discreet as possible and capture it all documentary style. As discreet as a slightly chubby balding guy walking around a hotel room can be I guess!
The wedding was outdoors which was absolutely amazing with Rookery Hall in the background, and we were surrounded by the tress and flowers.
A massive plus for the wedding was that they bought their dog along to enjoy the party! I love it when couples bring their dog and they are always my favourite photos. Made me miss our Shih-tzu at home though!
Me and the groom John discussed football for ages. He’s a Man City fan and i’m a Villa fan so we complained about how the England manager wasn’t using our players properly! I thought I had better do some work at this point so I took the bride and groom on a relaxed stroll around the grounds for some fun, relaxed portraits. As natural as possible, nothing too stiff or serious. They came out really well!

I also did some group photos, which were pretty painless; a whole group photo with everyone screaming enthusiastically, which was nice, and some family shots. Wasn’t sure what to do with the grooms men so I just instructed the guys to “attack the groom” which made us all laugh at least, and got a few funny photos!
I photographed the speeches and laughed along with the guests at some close to the bone humour from the best man, and also the father of the bride mocking his new son-in-law’s DIY skills. And after, I pulled up a chair to one of the tables and sat and enjoyed a beer with the guests, and had a real laugh. About topics like entitled customers in Waitrose and funny times i’ve had at weddings, as I remember. Then I drove home to Uttoxeter, absolutely shattered but happy. It’s good to be back.
