How cool is the street art at The Zellig?

The Old Library Birmingham

The Old Library is used as a wedding and event space since the Library was relocated to the new development in Birmingham. It offers a characterful and historical space, with huge windows and an enormous ceiling. The prefect template to put your own unique stamp on.

It’s a fairly newly refurbished converted Victorian library. The unique historic venue can easily accommodate up to 140 guests for a ceremony and sit-down reception, and there is further space for a large bar area and dance floor, separated from the main space by three grand arch ways.

Your wedding can spill over into Gibb Street when the weather is warm and all the characterful bars and shops of the Custard Factory and the Building.

History of The Old Library and The Zellig

Part of the Zellig Group, the Old Library has been in operation since 1990. The original library first opened as one of Birmingham’s 5 free libraries in 1866, it is now the only one still standing.

A former Custard Factory and Library

The public library’s doors closed to the public in 1940 and remained closed until 1990 when the dilapidated space was bought alongside the Bird’s Custard Factory and lovingly refurbished by Bennie Gray. The building was then leased to another company from 2004 until August 2017 when it has been returned to its original owner.

Street Photography style wedding portraits

I absolutely love photographing weddings at the Old Library and The Zellig because there’s such a street photography feel to the photos as you can see from the ones i’ve included here. These are from Natalie and Lee’s DIY wedding in May 2022. The sense of capturing random street scenes with the bride and groom portraits is great.

The graffiti provides a quirky and dynamic backdrop. The old weathered buildings and the colourful bars and cafes also give a really vibrant look to your wedding photos here.
