Maisie and Dan booked me after seeing my street photography on Instagram; during the pandemic weddings were cancelled of course so there was an opportunity to do do street photography and personal projects, and they booked me on the strength of those so it’s awesome to see not just my wedding photos getting recognition!

Bridal prep was a visit to Maisie and Dan’s apartment in the centre of Nottingham to capture some incredible eye makeup, a stunning jumpsuit and general fun and laughter before the ceremony. Maisie is a designer and I could see her influence all over the wedding, she designed and made most of the wedding decorations, and her choice of outfit was really cool. I hot-footed it over to the Council Houses in Nottingham where the groom was waiting for everyone to arrive.

The ceremony was within the mightily impressive ballroom in Nottingham Council house. The key word here is grandeur. It really is amazing, with vintage styling, and the lighting coming in from the huge windows is absolutely beautiful and bathed the couple in a soft glow during the ceremony - see below!

They exited the room to The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’; the couple love their alternative music and frankly, so do I! So it was a real pleasure to hear The Cure, Talking Heads, New Order, through the wedding day. Certainly beats…cough, Ed Sheeran! I photographed the bride and groom walking down a swiftly arranged ribbon procession, flanked by all of their friends and family. Outside we did some family shots and group shots in a crowded Nottingham market square, and I had to politely ask the public to move a few times, or to shift their shopping bags!

What I loved is that Maisie and Dan set half an hour aside specifically for us to walk around the centre of Nottingham and take some intimate portraits. You will see below we had a lot of fun doing street portraits throughout the centre of Nottingham; all very relaxed and fun, stopping at interesting spots in Nottingham and getting the couple to interact naturally. We stood in the middle of the tram lines and kept an eye out for approaching trams! I think we achieved some lovely documentary style wedding portraits.

The reception and wedding breakfast took place at the Cosy Club Nottingham; the Art Deco styling is stunning and there was a candle-lit atmosphere to the whole evening. The couple sat me with the guests and treated me to a three course meal, and I was so incredibly grateful!

I was pleasantly surprised to see a remarkably-coiffured and detailed sloth and otter adorning the couple’ s wedding cake. These are Maisie and Dan’s nicknames for each other and I for one, totally approve.

First dance was a song by The National, a great band, and I captured the emotions of that with on-camera flash and then some awesome dancing shots as the party continued late into the night! I finally said my thanks to the couple and made my way back to the car, surrounded by the Saturday night drunken revellers and just a little conscious about carrying my camera equipment around! But all in all, one of my favourite weddings of the year.

“Max did an amazing job of capturing our wedding day! We are over the moon with our photographs. He completely got the vibe and understood us as a couple and what we wanted. As a result of this we have incredible photographs! He is super friendly and lovely with great communication over email and in person. Would totally recommend Max!” (Maisie & Dan)
